The planets in the horoscope of the Full Moon on August 9, 2025 form a kite pattern. My personal experience of a transiting kite pattern is one of protection. Last year, I went out on a day when transits to my natal chart warned of risks tied to travel and communication. Yet, during the brief window of a kite formation, it felt as if I were wrapped in an invisible shield. I moved through the hours with ease. But as soon as that shield lifted, reality returned, abruptly reminding me to be vigilant once again.
I found the following reference to Kite patterns in “Dictionary of Astrology” by Fred Gettings, published in 1985:
A kite is a configuration in which one of the planets in a grand trine opposes a fourth planet that simultaneously forms sextile aspects (60° angles) with the remaining two planets. This is considered a fortunate configuration in a natal chart: Depending on the indications of the balance of the chart, a grand trine can be too fortunate, bringing the native good luck but not challenging the person to develop character. The inclusion of an opposed fourth planet adds an element of challenge and tension that stimulates the native to release the energies of the grand trine in a dynamic manner. The house position of the fourth planet usually indicates the area of life in which this release will occur.
I did not find references to kite patterns in mundane charts, so I searched the mundane charts in my records to help with defining how kite patterns manifest. I found only one chart containing a kite pattern, the Walk on the Moon horoscope. I will apply the essential elements from Gettings’ description to interpret the chart.
On July 20, 1969, Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first person to take a step on the Moon. The horoscope shows a kite pattern formed with the Ascendant and North Node as stand-ins for a fourth planet. The two points appear to represent a culmination of efforts by the United States to lead space exploration. However, the Mars/Neptune retrograde conjunction in the Scorpio ruled 8th house tends to give credence to conspiracy theories that the event was faked. The conjunction trines the Sun/Mercury conjunction in the 5th house of entertainment. Mars is in the adventurous sign of Sagittarius and conjunct the 9th house of space travel, an indication that action was taken in this direction. I’m not sure what to conclude at this juncture. Further analysis of the chart is needed.
The August 9 2025 Full Moon chart for the Washington DC longitude/latititude has Mars as the release planet. Mars is in the fourth house of land and conjunct the Imum Coeli (national roots). Mars at 1° in cardinal sign Libra satisfies two benchmarks commonly associated with 6M+ earthquakes in Sun/Moon charts. Its opposition to Saturn adds further support. While Saturn and Neptune are placed in the 10th house, outside the typical parameters, the presence of a debilitated Mars in the 4th house, forming a hard aspect, may still be sufficient to signal seismic activity. I think Mount Pelee, which is in the same time zone as Washington DC, is more likely to have a 6.0+M earthquake, as Saturn is in its Full Moon’s ninth house.
Neptune was in the eighth house of the 1902 New Moon chart for the 7.0 M volcanic eruption on May 8, 1902; meeting my earthquake prediction criteria. I do think criteria for eruptions and earthquakes differ. The eight house Neptune location appears to be something the two have in common.
As I was looking for earthquake indicators in the August 9 Full Moon chart, I searched for time zones which placed Saturn in the eleventh house and found that the U.S. west coast chart (Los Angeles longitude/latitude used) has Saturn in the eleventh house. This puts the west coast on the list for possible earthquake activity above 6.0 magnitude. Sun in the fourth house of the Pacific Coast Full Moon, conjunct the Imum Coeli adds to the likelihood of an earthquake.
Determining what area with Saturn in the 11th chart is more likely to experience an earthquake, I think, may be possible by comparison of the Full Moon chart to the area chart. I have only a rectification test (rectest) chart for Los Angeles. There are major aspects between the Los Angeles rectest chart and its full moon chart. Without charts for the other locations, I cannot confirm that Los Angeles is the most likely area for an earthquake, should one occur. Comparison aspects are below.
