One thing the three pandemic charts have in common is a planet and/or node in the 4th house. The 4th house rules housing and communal harmony1 in a mundane chart. It makes sense that these areas would be affected by a pandemic. It’s notable that Leo is either on an angle or the 6th house in all charts. This means that Sun plays a big part in the chart. I found Sun’s position in the 1918 chart curious and wondered how U.S. economy was affected. According to Efraim Benmelech and Carola Frydman, the economy did not suffer much. “…1919 stands as the ninth best year for the Dow from 1915 to 2019. According to some estimates, real gross national product actually grew in 1919, …”.
United States was at war in 1918. It joined World War 1 on April 6, 1917. The war ended when Germany signed the Armistice in the fall of 1918.
…1914 to 1918 were mostly boom years for the U.S. as the federal government poured money into the wartime economy. Previously a debtor nation, the U.S. emerged from the war as a chief lender and arguably the strongest and most vibrant economy in the world…..But even that wartime boom doesn’t fully explain what happened next. Somehow, despite a global flu pandemic that killed 675,000 Americans in 1918 and 1919, and a depression that gutted the economy in 1920 and 1921, the United States not only recovered but entered into a decade of unprecedented growth and prosperity.2
Reports of what occurred contradict expectations. One would expect Mars square Sun/Sun opposite Pluto aspects in money houses to indicate large financial losses. Similar to trines, this is something to make note of and track when analyzing other ingress charts.
Sun rules the 4th house in the 2022 Chicago Spring Ingress chart as it does in the 1830 chart. Instead of placement in the 8th house of other people’s money and transformation, Sun is in the 11th house of legislation. Sun in the 2022 chart forms a sextile to Pluto and conjunction to Neptune. According to H.S. Green, Sun in the 11th house “Benefits the Government …; promotes the passage of legislation; important measures may be introduced or passed. Sun sextile Saturn is “Fortunate for state or municipal officials and for reforms connected with these. Mining, building, and occupations ruled by Saturn prosper, and workers and labor generally.” This appears to mean that favorable legislation for Chicago will be passed in the Spring.
To get an idea of how Sun in the 11th house has manifested in the past for Chicago, I looked through ingress charts I created in the past and found three charts. No significant events were noted during the periods covering two of the charts – Summer 1907 and Spring 1993. Respectively, Sun ruled the Ascendant, and Sun ruled the Imum Coeli. The third chart covers Fall 2016. On October 29th, an American Airlines plane caught fire on an O’Hare runway. There were no fatalities. Sun rules the Midheaven in this chart.
After this foray into comparing the 2022 Spring chart to pandemic-related charts, I feel fairly confident that any events during the spring, should any occur, will not be centered upon worsening of the present pandemic or exposure of a new one. Ingress charts involving O’Hare airport and planes have correlated with the 2022 Spring chart twice; Saturn conjunct Midheaven and Sun in the 11th house. In part 3, I will look further into this possibility.
